Remembering Why We Should Recycle

I found this article a while ago, and found it disturbing.

In brief, several leading paper producers, including Kimberly-Clark (Kleenex, Cottenelle), are producing paper products at the great risk of some of the most vibrant forests, sacrificing wildlife species and their habitats. Their production rose to meet the increased demand for paper in the U.S. NRDC and several other organizations are pushing paper companies to change its practices. Terribly, Kimberly-Clark heavily relies on fiber and pulp from virgin trees in the U.S and Canada. They use only 19% of recycled pulp for their products.

This is just another reminder of the importance of recycling and curbing paper wastes. Here are some ways to reduce waste:

- Use cloth napkins and dishtowels instead of paper napkins and towels.
- Don't purchase juice cartons. Instead, purchase a small water bottle to refill with beverages.
- Print double-sided. Use scratch paper whenever possible.
- Buy recycled products. Some of the recycled paper products producers include Seventh Generation, CVS and Marcal. I noticed that Trader Joe's also carries its own line of recycled paper products.
